The future is now!

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

The evolution of a generation of technologies has come together. Another achievement to be added to mankind’s list of worthy accomplishments.  We can now ordered Pizza online. This is truly what those men of science had in mind when they were first thinking up the World Wide Web.

Fan Expo

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Fan Expo 2009 was fantastic! I certainly could have done it for 2 days, one to see the sites and one just for photography. I went dressed as a pretty convincing Peter Parker. I already look like him most of the time anyways. It was a great costume to ware if your priority is pointing a camera at all the rest of the superheroes.

Everybody how’s anybody in the comic geek world was there, from the lonely Jawas to the Amazing X-Men.  A lot of people from Ottawa were in Toronto for the show. My friend from the comic book shop down town came with a StarWars entourage. She was dressed as a Twi’lek Sith Lord. Everybody’s costumes were original and hand made. One couple told me that they started working on this years costume right after last years Fan Expo. I think Tashia got some attitude from somebody for her costume.

This photo album took a long while to get posted because my laptop died on me right while I was running through these pictures for the first time. I got it up and running again but here’s hoping that by the time I’ve done my next couple of post I’ll be blogging from a new laptop.

Vacation Time

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Summer vacation is well on its way. This is the first week off I’ve had since I started at National Defense. I’m taking a brake from my brake on a count of the rain to post a couple of cottage pictures online.

The old man and I put a good weekends worth of elbow-grease into building our camp fire pit. The next week we christened the new fire pit with a shish kabob barbeque and a marshmallow roast.

Everybody needs a weekend getaway even this lazy guy.

So far so good, kayaking yesterday was fun but geocaching was a total bust. I think I’ll be going home with a sun burn by the end of this week. There is a lot more summer to go. With plenty of time for boating, hiking, pool and I hope to do a whole lot of photography.

There I am in total Vacation Mode

Race Day

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Sunday is race day at the Shannonville Speedway. The main event is the Castrol Super Touring Series. I won’t even begin to tell you about the weather that day. I met up with friends Denis and Team Vitesse Pure. The team driver, Gilbert is riding in stile in his yellow Hyundai Tiburon Tuscany just like yours truly. Well his is a little more tuned than mine. A whole lot more than mine.

Fantastic place to take high speed photographs. I think I’ve stopped the action once or twice. Next time I head to the track with Denis it will be to see his sports bike.

It looks just like mine.

The first photo of the day was one of the best ones.

Not everybody crosses the finish line.

McGangBang Baby

Monday, March 9th, 2009

The crew rolled-out to McDicks for a McGangBang Burger. That’s a double cheeseburger stuffed with a McChicken sandwich in between 2 patties. And you know what? It tastes just as good as it sounds.

Why did we do this? Because, THIS IS WHY YOURE FAT

Don’t worry I made sure to get a Diet Coke on the side, ya gots’ to watch what you eat now days.

We had a run in with the McManager who came and told us to put the camera away. I gave him a bit of lip while I finished taking my shot. It’s all kool, that just makes the story that much funnier.

Next week, Pizza burgers are going to make a comeback.

WarHammer 40K

Friday, March 6th, 2009

I met some kool gammers and saw some first-rate works of art at the ‘WarHammer Game Summit - Winter Skirmish’. It’s really great to see something like this going down in the Ottawa area. These multi day events like Comi-Con and the fan fairs show up in TO but always pass right over the Capital.

Enlist Today! Join the U.N.S.C Space Marines!

While playing with the photos I put together this video slide show.

Damn, I love that song!

WarHammer 40K At Game Summit Winter Skirmish 2009 in Ottawa

I would have taken more photos with the macro but it’s hard to get in real close on a table while two guys are chucking dice at you. Next time around I’m bringing my tripod. Or even better, this is exactly the type of shoot that would give me a good excuse to buy a monopod.

I also took this opportunity to try playing with a new photo technique. And by new I mean very old. Stereoscopic photography looks like it could be fun and really impressive. Stereoscopy tricks your eyes into seeing 2D images in 3D by creating the illusion of depth perception. I gave my self a crash course online and if it turns out well I’ll be sure to have another Blog post up when I’m done.

The rest of the days Photos are all posted on my Picasa Web Album.

Arcade Night

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Geeked out at Club Saw’s Arcade show on Saturday night. There was karaoke Rock Band on the big concert stage, retro gaming and a PacMan & Galaga competition that was about as intense as it can get. All the new and old gaming hardware as well as the video equipment was donated by the staff and friends of Saw Video.

I wish there were a lot more of this sort of event in Ottawa. The people are here for it and the rooms at this one were packed. Let’s get a Comi-con or next years Fan Expo here in the Capital.

I finally got to play E.T. on the Atari 2600. It truly is the worst game ever made. It brought an entire industry to its knees. Here’s a great little history lesson for anyone who’s interested “Video Game Crash of 1983

Woow! That’s a big screen.

He Wasn’t Always Evil

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

While I was at the comic book shop this week, I bought a can filled with the T-Virus and a refreshing can of Slurm to wash it down with. Slurm tastes a lot like Red Bull and worm poop.

I think the evil monkey may be infected by the virus. And if your wondering, you can tell he’s evil because he wears a Fez.

Red Bull Flugtag Ottawa 2008

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Yesterday was Red Bulls Flugtag event at the Museum of Civilization. Flugtag is German  for … well that doesn’t matter. The point is they make a bunch of floats and put on some silly costumes to show them off in. And since that stuff all gets old pretty quickly, they liven’ it up by throwing them off a cliff into the Rideau River.

Just watch the videos, they’re pretty self explanatory.

But before we do that;
“Mom, can I borrow your new video camera? Thanks”

I’m Blogging in real time now.

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

The first thing I did with my new BlackBerry was sign up for a Twitter account.

I’ve been sent the invite about 3 times now and never wanted to register because I didn’t want to have to twitter from my PC. “Still Sitting at Computer” doesn’t sound like a very exciting post to me.  Texting on the go is clearly what this was made for.

I told Tashia to sign up at the same time as me so we could be twitter buddies.

Check out  the top right hand corner of my blog page where I’ve added my Twitter feed. It looks good, works well and it perfectly fills up that gap between the header and the sidebar that was there for so long now.  I stretched out the background Image to create a good spot for it to sit.

All ‘n all. I’m very happy with the BB. Props Mike. I’ve sent more SMS messages in the last 4 days then I have in the past 3 years.
