You Are Cordially Invited

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

It is my honor to present to you for the first time as husband and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Danny and Danielle Delaney.

We had a sweet and simple ceremony which I was very happy to contribute to, by doing my part as the official photographer. I would have been disappointed if they decided to go thorough with the wedding onboard the cruse ship and I’d missed out on everything. The family has become a bit larger and I have two more cousins in the mix.

I got the title for this blog post off of the Start Trek Klingon Wedding episode.

Caribbean Stone Cooking

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

One of my favorite stories from my time in the Caribbean was eating authentic native food that was cooked on burning hot stones mimicking the way the pirates had done it centuries ago.

On the first night, right after I landed in Belize I headed to an outdoors cabana café.

Now, the first piece of advice that every one of my friends gave me before I left was to make sure everything I ate was completely thoroughly cooked. So when a local chef placed a stone full of raw chicken in front of me I was more then a little apprehensive. It didn’t take long to figure out what was going on. After a couple of inquiries I was told how the Spanish pirates would throw flat rocks into the fires then use them to cook fish or other meats that were hunted down in the forests.

I was able to try my own stone cooking this week. I marinated 16 pieces of Jerk chicken over night then invited friends and family over to savor the attempt. My mom was concerned that it would take far to long for the chicken to cook on that little rock but let me tell you it was hot. The food started searing the second it hit the grill and with the oil burning underneath we were able keep cooking em’up the whole way through dinner.

Time for the Best Part of the Holidays to Start

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Our presents are wrapped and our stockings are stuffed.

This Christmas season has so far been too much shopping and not enough celebrating. That part’s all behind us now so It’s time to have some winter fun and of course, the food.

This weekend started off with a long drive to spend a day dealing with some very unpleasant issues down in Belleville, Ontario. After that was all said and done our trip ended with tobogganing on the farm and our first Christmas feast of the year, cooked over an old wood stove. Everything is now just the way it should be.

I’m back home now and there are lots of gifts under our very tinny tree.  Things will be quite around here for the next little while. The Champagne’s on ice, waiting for Christmas morning to come.

I is what you’re getting for Christmas. So you better Love it!

Happy 60th Birthday Dad

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Todays is my Dad’s 60th Birthday. Happy birthday and I’m sure you’ll have another 60 to go. I’m almost amazed that my mother managed to pull off a surprise party without him finding out. Luckily after 60 years, he doesn’t ask that many questions any more. I think he got exactly what he wanted for his birthday, all his friends with him having a good time.

The first 60 are going pretty good

The Blacksmith Photo Page

This is The Blacksmith. I had met with him this summer in Richmond Ontario. After a couple of photos and the conversation to go with them, I found out that he had started off as a steel worker at The Beach Foundry. Beach was the steel mill where most of the Delaney family’s history was being written during the 60s and 70s. My father Mike, uncles Bob and Danny, aunt Sue and of course my grandfather Ernie Delaney all worked there. Some for only a short period of time and others for years until the foundry was finally closed.

I gave my dad this set of photos as a birthday present. I do hope they meant something to him and I’m sure I’ll see them hanging in our cottage next time I’m there.

We have a new feline friend staying with us. He’s been here a week and we’ve had nothing but fun with him since his arrival. He loves people and has learnt how to plays fetch.
His favorite thing to do is play in the toilet. I’m not sure what’s so fascinating but if it makes him happy I’ve got no reason to stop him. Were still trying to teach him to sty off of the kitchen table and we’re a little concerned about him jumping up on the stove. I can tell him not to a hundred times but I think he may just end up learning that lesson the hard way.

I’m glad to say he has taking after me. No I don’t drink out of the toilet too. He’s got his very own Blog! It’s a Twitter feed at BlogCat. So far mommy and daddy are his only friends online but I’m sure that will change over time.

Game Day 2008

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Today was a great opportunity to shoot some high speed photography at the golf course. The details that are picked up in the golfer’s swing at twenty frames a second are fantastic.

I was pleasantly surprised that my best pictures turned out to be all the young guys. I was really expecting the old pros to show them up, out on the links.

I’ve posted only a few of the many photos of our family golf team in their excellent form. Believe me there were also plenty of not so proficiently preformed shoots as well. Specifically the close up I got of uncle Wayne’s golf ball as it sourced across my head.  I will say, if it had hit me it would have been my own fault for sticking my nose out to far.

Best Swing of the Day. Thanks Spence

Happy First Birthday to my Nephew Alexander.

Alex had an amazing fun time and a sugar high that he probably still hasn’t gotten over. He got plenty of great presents, I’m happy to say that my train was totally the best gift.

I hope I’m invited to next years party.

Before and After

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

We finally got around to painting the apartment. The original colour that could be best described as ’shoe scuff white’ was starting to make Danielle feel like she was living in an asylum dormitory.

The furniture consists of an X-box and a crate to plant it on.

The green stripe is nice.

We found our selves something a little more stimulating. I don’t have the exact HTML hex colour code for these colours but suffice it to say we used a pastel green on the small wall to complement the orange that runs the length of the room. Along the far wall we used a really sharp clean polar white.

What’s with the old school Atari on the television?

We had a heck of a time picking out our colours and believe it or not this had nothing to do with the 2 of us arguing with each other about which ones to use. Frankly I was surprised at how in agreement we were, especially considering the eclectic nature of the new look we ended up with.

The problem was I wanted Orange. Just Orange. Not Orange with Yellow in it and not orange with red or blue in it. Finding that elusive shade turned out to be a chore.

There aren’t any pictures of us painting because we did most of the work in our underwear. The end result turned out good. I’m not sure if the land load is going to love it when it comes time for us to move out, but that’s a problem for another time.
